Travelin Man Batch #3 Release Friday 4/6 at 5 pm!

By | Blog

We are stoked to announce the newest batch of Travelin’ Man Intercontinental IPA Batch #3 will be releasing on Friday, April 6!

Travelin’ Man Batch #3, featuring Amarillo, Grüngeist and Rakau hops, is a soft, juicy, flavor bomb of an IPA with an amalgamation of flavors spanning the hop rainbow. The fresh beer will be unveiled a day after packaging in the taproom on Friday, 4/6 at 5 pm both on tap and in six packs to go. Limited can distribution across Austin will begin the following week with draft availability across Texas.

In January, we released the first batch after completely overhauling the malt, hops, yeast and even the water to create a “new school intercontinental IPA” classic enough to satisfy the hop heads on the West Coast and juicy enough to appease any member of the haze craze in the Northeast.

Travelin’ Man fully embraces the name by evolving on a regular basis as he travels around the globe in his hop sourcing. Each new batch will have the included hops stamped on the bottom of the can. It’s a fresh beer that should be consumed quickly, but can continue to evolve in the package for months due to massive dry hopping and biotransformations.

We’ll also have RWB’s Chow Bus on site serving food and live music by Ella Reid Music!

Revamped Scratchin’ Hippo Amber Release

By | Blog

Our new and improved Scratchin’ Hippo is a classic amber with a perfect balance of malty backbone with subtle hop bitterness to scratch the itch of even the tamest beer drinker.

You may recall Scratchin Hippo was originally brewed as a Biere de Garde, an historic and obscure style that even the most seasoned craft beer drinkers could easily look over. We realized that we were missing out on brewing a time-honored beer, an American Amber, that would allow us to highlight the characteristics of what people loved about the old Hippo, while pushing it further towards a more approachable and recognizable style. We kept the name because it’s a great story, plus hippos are pretty damn cool.

Scratchin’ Hippo pours deep amber releasing a bready aroma with hints of dark fruit. Rich roasted malt and hints of caramel balance elegantly with the clean citrus bitterness and earth tones from the hops. We recommend pairing it will BBQ, tangy cheeses, and banana bread pudding.

Join us on Friday, January 2 when we will be releasing a limited run of these cans at our taproom. It will also be on tap for your enjoyment. Following the brewery release, we will do a small batch of cans (~50 cases)  into the Austin market with wider keg availability.

Don’t forget to let us know what you think by checking it in on Untappd!

Travelin’ Man, the New School Intercontinental IPA

By | Blog

Some of you may have noticed that the Travelin’ Man has taken a brief hiatus in the market. Originally, Travelin’ Man mainly inhabited the Wallonian Region. He was a Belgian IPA that was unique, but sometimes as medieval as the ancient times it was inspired by. In addition, we learned bottle conditioning an IPA is not near as rewarding as it is with a good Quad or Tripel.

Flash forward to today, Travelin’ Man has done a complete 180. We’ve revamped the malt, the hops, the yeast and even the water. This overhauled version is what we’re calling a “new school intercontinental IPA.” Classic enough to satisfy the hop heads on the West Coast and juicy enough to appease any member of the haze craze in the Northeast. All the while still retaining our own Texas sovereignty.

Embracing the Travelin’ Man name we’ve now included malt and hops gathered from around the world. The beer will also evolve on a regular basis as he travels around the globe in his hop sourcing. Further branching out from our traditional roots, we’ve expanded our palate to now include our first non-Belgian yeast.

This beer is a soft, juicy, flavor bomb of an IPA with an amalgamation of tastes and aromas spanning the hop rainbow. It’s a fresh beer that should be consumed quickly, but can continue to evolve in the package for months due to massive dry hopping and biotransformations.

Leading the charge on this revamp is our new brewer, Cory Hebert, who came to us from another production brewery in Texas. His knowledge and expertise helped us craft this beer into the delightful beverage that it is.

Come by for our release on Friday, January 5 at 4 pm to try our new beer and high five Scott, Cory, Mark & Steve.

Stay tuned. This is the first of many new ideas we have to come in 2018.

Press Release – Adelbert’s Brewery Launches Exclusive Line of Fruited Sours

By | Blog

February 1, 2017 – AUSTIN – Adelbert’s Brewery is pleased to announce the release of Passion Fruit Sour, the first in a new fruited sour series available exclusively at the brewery. Passion Fruit Sour, which will release on February 10th, has been nicknamed a “vacation in a bottle.”

The brewery blends in passion fruit with a variety of house yeast strains during its 18 months of aging in oak barrels to develop a refreshing, tropical sour ale balanced with just the right amount of unique barrel notes.

Scott Hovey, Founder & Brewmaster of Adelbert’s Brewery said, “Every batch in this series will taste unique. We use a blend of several barrels for each sour. Some were inoculated naturally while others were inoculated with strains we chose. We don’t use a standard house yeast strain or base beer recipe. We change what we put into the barrels each time to give more complexity to the blends.”

Confirmed fruit sour releases will include Passion Fruit Sour, Raspberry Sour and Blueberry Sour. Several other flavors are still in the testing phase and will be announced once the brewery is happy with the blends. Future release dates will be announced on social media and by press release.

Hovey added, “We select the barrels to blend for each individual batch based on what tastes best at that time. In fact, we already dumped 20% of the barrels aged because we didn’t like the flavors that developed.”

In light of the brewery converting to a brewpub permit in 2016, the brewery plans to use the new license as an opportunity to test the response to limited release beers before evaluating for larger market release. Blackberry Barrel of Love, released in late 2016, and the fruited sours will be the first of many such beers to become available.
